Finding Clarity in Your Life

When substances are a priority in your life, it can be not easy to have clarity about anything else. Lines get crossed, values get lost, and morals can become blurred. You can lose focus, lose intent, and lose direction. Removing substances from your life allows you to not only heal but also to re-examine what it is that you want. Becoming clean and sober allows you to find clarity in your life.

Removing Substances and Distractions

The first step toward finding clarity is to remove all of the distractions. The biggest distraction in addiction would be the substances themselves. Going through detox and then residential treatment for addiction will help your mind and body to become substance-free and put you on the path toward recovery.

Digging deep and discovering the root causes of your addiction, addressing them, and making the changes in your thinking patterns will help make those changes permanent. As you remove the physical substances from your body, you can also begin to remove the emotional and mental distractions from your mind and spirit. This process begins during treatment and may continue for some time, depending on your individual situation.

Healing From Your Emotional Wounds

For many women, substance abuse began as a coping mechanism for some type of emotional pain. This could be emotional pain from some form of trauma or abuse, a mental health disorder, or other emotional wounds. There is often self-forgiveness needed as well as deep-rooted shame that needs to be addressed. Learning to acknowledge and heal from these emotional wounds paves the way to help clear your mind and your conscience as you can find peace in emotional healing.

Creating empowering habits will help you to move forward with power and authority in your life. Replacing habits like substance use with new habits like mindfulness meditation, yoga, taking a walk, or self-care will help to heal emotional wounds and help you to learn more about yourself. These new habits will also help you find clarity in purpose and your core values and beliefs.

Clearing Your Mind of the Past

Another step toward finding clarity is to let go of the past. It can be tempting to cling to your past, especially for some reason to cling to the things you may have done that you judge as negative. However, by healing and moving forward, your efforts to let go of your past are enhanced, and you no longer need to judge the past as positive or negative. You can simply see it for what it is – the past.

Letting go of all of this negative energy will allow you to clear your mind to be able to examine what it is that you really want. Without your past constantly haunting you and framing your mindset, you can more clearly see what it is that you truly value in life.

Examining Your Core Values

Clarity is lost when you lose sight of what your core values are. During active addiction, you may have compromised your core values, which can cause feelings of shame, disappointment, and failure. As you remove the substances and the distractions and let go of your past, you can see once again what values are the most important to you.

For example, you might realize that values such as loyalty, respect, compassion, faith, or family are the most important to you. Once you find the values that are most important, you will know what they are because they will resonate with you. These will be the values that will be at the heart of your behaviors going forward. You will naturally want to align your actions with these values to have integrity in yourself and feel confident and happy.

Moving Forward With Clarity

Once you have identified your core values, you will be able to see more clearly what it is that you want in your life and where you want to go. For example, if compassion is at the top of your core values, you may choose a new career as a doctor, a nurse, or in the addiction recovery field, where compassion is an essential value.

At the very least, your core values will be able to give you daily direction on how to navigate your life and interact with others. You will have clarity on the type of woman that you want to be and how you want others to remember your interactions with them. Most importantly, you will know how to be true to yourself and be able to look in the mirror and respect the woman you see there.

Finding clarity in your life begins by removing the substances and other distractions from your life and healing from your emotional wounds.
